Soren Kierkegaard said, “When the tyrant dies, his reign ends. But when the martyr dies, his reign begins.” I can’t think of a better summation of what has been transpiring across the globe since Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

And yes, I mean around the globe. From South Korea to Australia, the UK, New Zealand, Japan, and numerous other nations, vigils are being held to honor his name and memory. Professional sports teams are holding moments of silence before their games, and employers at major universities and elsewhere are firing workers who grossly cheered and celebrated this father and husband’s violent murder.

It has all the earmarks of a cultural awakening… but it isn’t stopping there. There seems to be a spiritual awakening at play as well. Online, there are endless posts of people admitting that they went to church for the first time in the wake of Charlie’s death. It’s everywhere. Congregants are also noticing. For all of the posts of people saying Charlie inspired them to go to church, there’s nearly equal testimony from Christians who noticed that their churches had a noticeably larger attendance than usual.

Even before Charlie was slain, millennials and Gen Z were becoming the “backbone of church attendance” with a noticeable increase in Sunday attendance since COVID made landfall in the United States.

What man meant for evil, we are already beginning to see the Lord use for good. So pray, brothers and sisters. Pray that through Charlie’s martyrdom, hundreds, if not thousands, of souls would be adopted into the kingdom.

May we all aspire to leave for others even a small fraction of the legacy that Charlie left for us.
