For the next 60 days, starting either earlier this week or as of this Friday, emissaries of Washington and Tehran will do battle not by bombers or drones, but rather by claims and arguments. They will hash out the various clauses of the Memorandum of Understanding electronically signed by President Trump and Speaker Kalibaf, with a common goal of reaching a more permanent agreement than a mere ceasefire with initial concessions. Will they get there safely, or is it more reasonable to assume a breakdown in negotiations and a resumption of hostilities?
